  1. Building Collaboration at the Physics of Life Interface – This is the first of two calls for proposals from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Physics of Life Strategic Priority Fund to support internationally leading research that requires collaborative, interdisciplinary working to address key challenges at the interface of physics and the life sciences. This call will fund high-quality proposals that demonstrate deep integration of cutting edge experimental, theoretical and/or computational physics with life sciences research to advance our understanding of living systems in biological or biomedical contexts.   1. International calls BBSRC-Brazil – FAPESP Pump-Priming Awards (FAPPA)To pump-prime collaborations between scientists in the UK and the São Paulo State, Brazil. To enhance food security and bioenergy and industrial biotechnology research in the UK and Brazil. Typically up to £35k over 2-years will be provided for the UK partners. Open to current BBSRC research grant holders and researchers employed at institutes of BBSRC who are in receipt of BBSRC funding. Consortia of academics may apply, with 1 person acting as the lead.
  2. ESRC Research Grants – Awards ranging from £350,000 to £1 million (100 per cent full Economic Cost (fEC)) can be made to eligible institutions to enable individuals or research teams to undertake anything from a standard research project through to a large-scale survey and other infrastructure or methodological development. There is considerable flexibility when it comes to subject area, too. As long as you always make sure that your suggested topic falls within ESRC’s remit, you are free to concentrate on any research area. Proposals can draw from the wider sciences, but the social sciences must represent more than 50 per cent of the research focus and effort. Please see the Call Specification and scheme specific Je-S Guidance below for more details of what can be applied for under this call.You can submit proposals to this call at any time – there are no fixed closing dates.
